We started reduction lino cuts today -  experimenting with colour combinations.

Meanwhile some of the more experienced printmakers continued with their individual projects, developing ideas for layering colours and texture.

Thursday 19th January

Starting on lino cuts today, some lovely results already.

We also experimented with lino prints over the monotypes that we worked on last week.

Our returning group are making good progress on their individual projects.

Thursday 12th January 2017

On the first evening of this term we experimented with monotype techniques. Here are some of the results.

Woodcuts

A woodcut is a centuries old technique whereby cuts are made along the grain of a piece of planed wood. Depending on the coarseness of the grain the detail can be quite fine or very rough. The Expressionist movement used the immediacy of the technique to create powerful raw images. The following examples are by Paul Nash, Kathe Kollwitz and Karl Schnidt-Roffluff.

Here are the results of the last couple of weeks, including the culmination of longer projects and some quick Christmas cards prints.

Thursday 10th November

Some great experimental work going on this evening. Nicola is starting her repeat prints onto book cloths.

Emma is been working on abstract monotypes.

And Hatty has been starting some prints onto fabric using acrylic paints with printing medium.
